BELIEVR - Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18.10.2026

This Privacy Policy explains how BELIEVR ("BELIEVR", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects your personal data when you use our mobile app and website, including integrations with third-party services such as Garmin Connect, Apple Health and Apple Watch, and the optional AI coach ("Coach AI").

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in a transparent and secure way.

⸻

1. Data Controller & Contact

The data controller responsible for processing your personal data is:

Name: Niklas Seibold

Business form: Einzelunternehmer

Location: Hohenzollernstrasse 23, 80801 Munich, Germany

Email: support@joinbelievr.com

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, you can contact us at any time via email.

⸻

2. What Data We Collect

We only collect data that is necessary to provide and improve BELIEVR. Depending on how you use the app, we may process the following categories of data:

2.1 Account & Identification Data

  • Name (first and last name)

  • Email address

  • Password (if you register with email; stored by our authentication provider in hashed form and never visible to us)

  • Authentication provider information (e.g. "Sign in with Apple", Google sign-in)

  • Profile photo (if you add one)

  • Internal user IDs (e.g. Firebase user ID, BELIEVR user ID, RevenueCat ID)

2.2 Profile & Training Setup Data

To create your training plan and personalise the experience, we process:

  • Date of birth (to confirm you are at least 18 and to calculate training zones)

  • Sex

  • Current fitness level and training experience (self-reported)

  • Sport and race goals (triathlon or running, distance, race date, goal time)

  • Weekly time availability and preferred training days

  • Performance markers you enter or that we estimate (e.g. threshold pace, FTP, heart rate zones)

2.3 Training & Usage Data

When you use BELIEVR for training, we process:

  • Planned training sessions (sport, duration, intensity, structure, description)

  • Completed sessions (distance, duration, pace, heart rate, perceived effort / RPE)

  • Progress statistics (e.g. completed sessions, training load and fitness trends)

  • Check-ins after training (e.g. how the session felt, fatigue, soreness)

  • Coaching tips, insights and plan adjustments generated for you

  • Changes you make to your plan (moving, skipping or swapping sessions)

2.4 Wearable & Health Data (Garmin / Apple Health / Apple Watch)

If you connect BELIEVR to Garmin Connect or Apple Health and explicitly grant permission, we may receive:

  • Activity and workout data (e.g. runs, rides, swims, triathlon sessions)

  • Metrics such as distance, pace, speed, duration, elevation and cadence

  • GPS route of an activity (to show it on a map in the app)

  • Heart rate data (average and maximum heart rate, heart rate zones, resting heart rate, heart rate variability / HRV)

  • Training load and performance metrics (if provided by the service)

  • Sleep duration and sleep stages (if you allow sharing sleep data)

Heart rate, HRV, resting heart rate and sleep are health data.

We use this data to:

  • Analyse how your training is going

  • Adjust your training plan and recommendations

  • Display your activities and progress in BELIEVR

We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell it to third parties. Apple Health data is used only to provide BELIEVR's training and coaching features.

BELIEVR complies with Garmin's Developer Program policies and only accesses, processes and stores Garmin data as permitted by you and required for app functionality.

Sending workouts to your watch. If you choose to, BELIEVR sends your planned workouts to Garmin Connect or to your Apple Watch so you can follow them on your device. We only send what is needed to create the workout (e.g. name, sport, date, structure, duration and intensity targets). We do not send your profile or unrelated personal data.

You can disconnect Garmin or Apple Health at any time in BELIEVR (Settings → Connected Devices) and in the settings of Garmin Connect or Apple Health.

2.5 Device & Technical Data

To keep the app running and to improve it, we process:

  • Device model, operating system and app version

  • IP address (processed by our hosting and analytics providers for delivery, security and diagnostics)

  • Push notification token (if you allow notifications)

  • Usage events (e.g. which features you use, taps on buttons, sign-in and onboarding steps), linked to your BELIEVR user ID (see 3.3)

  • Crash reports and performance data that Apple provides to us if you have agreed in your iOS settings to share analytics with app developers

2.6 Payment & Subscription Data

BELIEVR uses the Apple App Store, integrated via RevenueCat, to manage subscriptions:

  • We do not see or store your credit card or payment details.

  • We receive information about your subscription (e.g. monthly or yearly), its status (active, cancelled, trial), trial start and end dates, and a limited transaction identifier.

We use this data to determine whether you have access to BELIEVR Pro features.

2.7 Communication & Support Data

If you contact us (e.g. via email or in-app support), we process your email address, the content of your request and, where relevant, technical context. We use this to respond to you and improve our service.

We also send you service emails (e.g. welcome email, email verification, password reset, important account and subscription information) and, only if you subscribe, our newsletter.

2.8 Coach AI (optional)

BELIEVR includes an optional AI coach ("Coach AI") that writes a short daily training brief for you, answers your questions in the Coach chat and explains changes to your plan. Coach AI is off until you turn it on in the app, and you can turn it off at any time under Settings → Coach.

What data Coach AI uses. When Coach AI is on, we use your training plan and completed sessions, how your sessions felt (RPE), and, if you connected Garmin or Apple Health, your heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate and sleep. We also use the messages you write in the Coach chat and the facts Coach remembers about you (see below). Some of this is health data.

What we do not share. Before any data goes to our AI provider, we turn it into a summary without your name, email address, account identifiers, exact date of birth or location. An automatic check blocks requests that still contain such identifiers. We do not sell your data, and it is not used to train AI models.

Our AI provider. Coach AI is processed by Anthropic Ireland, Limited, 6th Floor, South Bank House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, D04 TR29, Ireland, acting as our processor under a data processing agreement. Processing may take place in the United States by its affiliate Anthropic PBC. These transfers are based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Anthropic deletes the data it receives from Coach AI within 30 days. If its automated safety systems flag a request as possible misuse, Anthropic may keep it for up to 2 years. Anthropic may not use the data to train its models.

Legal basis. Because Coach AI uses health data, we process it only with your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR), which you give in the app when you turn on Coach AI. You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings → Coach; this does not affect processing before the withdrawal. Without Coach AI, BELIEVR's rule-based coaching and plan adjustments keep working without an AI provider.

What Coach remembers. So it doesn't ask the same things twice, Coach may keep short facts from your chats (for example "prefers training in the morning"). You can see, edit and delete them in Settings → Coach. Coach does not keep health details from conversations in which it advised you to seek medical help.

Storage and deletion. Your chats, remembered facts and daily briefs are stored in our database (Convex, Inc., servers in the United States, AWS US East) for as long as your account exists. You can delete all chats and all remembered facts in Settings → Coach. Deleting your account deletes all Coach data. To run Coach AI we also record the amount of AI processing per request (token counts and cost), without content.

Safety review of flagged messages. An automatic check screens Coach chat messages for content that may need a human look, for example signs of self-harm, abuse or attempts to misuse Coach. If a message is flagged, authorised BELIEVR staff may read that message and Coach's reply to check that Coach responded safely and to improve its safety. Flagged messages are used for nothing else and are deleted with your chats or your account. This review is part of the Coach AI processing you consent to (see "Legal basis").

Not a medical service. Coach AI gives training guidance, not medical advice. If you describe symptoms that may need medical attention, Coach recommends that you stop training and see a doctor, and shows the emergency number for your region.

4. How We Share Your Data

We do not sell your personal data.

We share your data only with the following recipients, always under appropriate data protection agreements:

4.1 Service Providers (Processors)

These providers process data on our behalf, follow our instructions and are bound by data processing agreements:

  • Database, file storage and backend: Convex, Inc., USA (servers in the United States, AWS US East). Stores your account, profile, plan, training, wearable and Coach data.

  • Authentication: Google Firebase Authentication (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). Handles sign-in with email, Google and Apple, and sends email verification and password reset emails.

  • Subscription management: RevenueCat, Inc., USA. Manages your App Store subscription status.

  • Email: Loops (loops.so), USA. Sends the welcome email and other service emails and, if you subscribed, the newsletter. Receives your name, email address, BELIEVR user ID, subscription status and sport.

  • Product analytics: PostHog (PostHog EU cloud, servers in the EU), reached through our own domain. Receives usage events (see 2.5) linked to your BELIEVR user ID, name and email address.

  • Push notifications and app updates: Expo (650 Industries, Inc., USA). Delivers push notifications to Apple's push service and serves app updates.

  • AI provider (Coach AI only, if you turn it on): Anthropic Ireland, Limited (see 2.8).

4.2 Platform Providers

  • Apple (if you use Sign in with Apple, purchase via the App Store, connect Apple Health or use BELIEVR on Apple Watch; maps in the app are provided by Apple Maps)

  • Google (if you use Google sign-in)

  • Garmin (if you connect BELIEVR to Garmin Connect; via their API)

These are independent controllers for their own services. Their privacy policies apply in addition to ours.

When you share a session card (e.g. to Instagram Stories or Messages), it goes to the app you choose. That app's privacy policy applies. If you turn on calendar sync, your planned sessions are written to the calendar on your device.

4.3 Legal & Compliance

We may disclose data if necessary:

  • To comply with applicable laws or legal processes

  • To respond to valid requests from public authorities

  • To protect our rights, property or safety, or those of our users

⸻

5. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers are located, or process data, outside the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), in particular in the United States. This applies to Convex (our database, AWS US East), RevenueCat, Loops, Expo and Google.

Where this occurs, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, in particular:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, included in the providers' data processing agreements

  • Where a provider is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, the European Commission's adequacy decision

Coach AI: Anthropic (processing in the United States by Anthropic PBC) under the Standard Contractual Clauses in Anthropic's data processing agreement.

You can contact us for more information about these safeguards.

⸻

6. Data Retention

We keep your personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, in particular:

  • Account data: as long as you have an active BELIEVR account

  • Training and wearable data: as long as your account is active, or until you delete it or request erasure

  • Coach data (chats, remembered facts, daily briefs): until you delete them or your account. Flagged-message records: deleted together with the chat.

  • Coach AI requests at Anthropic: deleted within 30 days (up to 2 years if flagged by Anthropic's safety systems, see 2.8)

  • Usage events (analytics): 30 days, then deleted

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or delete your account

  • Subscription and invoice data: for the period required by tax and accounting laws (up to 10 years in Germany)

  • Support communication: as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable documentation period

You can delete your account in the app or by contacting us. We then delete or anonymise your personal data, unless we are legally required to retain certain information (e.g. accounting records).

⸻

7. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS)

  • Secure storage and access controls

  • Restricting access to personal data to those who need it

  • Pseudonymising data before it is sent to our AI provider (see 2.8)

  • Regular updates and security patches

However, no system can be 100% secure. We strive to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.

⸻

8. Your Rights Under the GDPR

You have the following rights with respect to your personal data:

  • Right of access – You can request information about what data we store about you.

  • Right to rectification – You can request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.

  • Right to erasure – You can request deletion of your data, where legally permissible.

  • Right to restriction of processing – You can request that we limit how we process your data.

  • Right to object – You can object at any time to processing based on legitimate interests (e.g. analytics, 3.3), for reasons relating to your particular situation.

  • Right to withdraw consent – If processing is based on consent (Garmin / Apple Health integration, Coach AI, newsletter), you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future.

To exercise your rights, please contact us at: support@joinbelievr.com

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your habitual residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement. The authority responsible for us is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

⸻

9. Children

BELIEVR is not intended for individuals under the age of 18.

We do not knowingly collect or process personal data from anyone under 18 years old. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such data, we will delete it promptly.

If you believe that a minor under 18 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@joinbelievr.com.

⸻

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our app and features, legal requirements or third-party services.

When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and inform you within the app and/or by email, where appropriate. If a change requires your consent (for example a new use of health data), we will ask for it before the change applies.
